How to format and validate JSON
JSON is a text format used to exchange structured data. It is strict: property names must use double quotes, values must be separated with commas, and objects use braces while arrays use brackets.
Common JSON errors
- Using single quotes instead of double quotes.
- Leaving a trailing comma after the final item.
- Forgetting a closing brace or bracket.
- Writing unquoted property names.
Paste your data into the JSON formatter to validate it and produce readable indentation. The formatter runs in your browser.
Format or minify?
Formatted JSON is easier for people to inspect. Minified JSON removes unnecessary whitespace and is useful when sending compact payloads.
